The single potted eyeshadows that you can get from any counter or store retail for $15.00 now, while the refill pan eyeshadows go for $12.00, though these can only be purchased at Pro stores. In this palette, I have 12 eyeshadows from the permanent line and 3 that are discontinued, limited edition shades.
Ricepaper (frost finish)--
Ricepaper is soft, yellow-toned eyeshadow that I like to use as an inner corner highlight. This would look fantastic as a subtle, all over lid color for someone paler than myself but I like it as a highlight for this same reason--it's subtle. It is not overly frosty, though the texture is not as soft or pigmented as most MAC frost eyeshadows.
Saddle (matte finish)--
Saddle is the most recent addition to my palette and has quickly become my most loved/used in the last few weeks. It is a warm, matte brown that leans more orange-toned. This has become an everyday color for me, whether it is in the crease or all over the lid. It applies and blends well for a matte. Often compared to it's little sister, Soft Brown, the two colors do look similar in the pan, but upon swatching Soft Brown is lighter and leans more brown than orange. I chose Saddle because I am more tan, but for paler gals, I think Soft Brown would be the perfect Saddle-equivalent.Mulch (velvet finish)--
This eyeshadow is a perfect warm brown with golden shimmer. The color is so rich, to the eye and the touch. It's a bit darker in person than can be seen in this photo. Mulch is a classic favorite from MAC, and I love it as well, for its richness, pigmentation, and versatility. You can create any look with this eyeshadow, from beautiful brown smokey eye to glamorously simple everyday eye.
Patina (frost finish)--
Patina is a hard eyeshadow to describe, both in the pan and on the skin. The best description I can give it is a light, dirty, antique-gold that also has a very faint purple duochrome sheen in certain lights. This is an eyeshadow that I feel does not get enough love by MAC users. It's a color that will look different depending on your skin color because there are so many tones in this one bitty eyeshadow. Patina will pull more green on one, more brown on another, and maybe more gold on others. It is a beautiful, subtle color that I highly suggest checking out in person because it is such a difficult color to describe in words or capture by photograph.
Ah, the cult favorite. The holy grail. MAC's little darling. All That Glitters is every bit as wonderful as people say it is. As you can see, this is my most used MAC eyeshadow because it is that perfect all over lid color. All That Glitters is a soft peachy beige champagne that has that beautiful shimmer of a champagne without being frosty, glittery (as in chunks), or overly shiny. The pigmentation is the epitome of the Veluxe Pearl finish, smooth and soft. This is a wonderful color for beginners and makeup connoisseurs alike and was actually my first MAC eyeshadow that I purchased. I highly recommend this color to anyone who likes a warmer lid color.
Sable (frost finish)--
Sable is a soft, pigmented warm brown that leans more purple toned, though the picture doesn't capture the purple very well. It's a very easy color to use and works well as a rich lid color or in the crease. Sable is a nice color with the fantastic pigmentation and texture that characterizes most of MAC's frost eyeshadows.
Haux (satin finish)--
I don't really understand why this is a 'satin finish' because to the eye, there is no visible shimmer of any kind. If anything, Haux is a matte. The color is a dusty rose-brown that I thought would look amazing as a lid color because it would define the eye yet look very natural. I was actually inspired by a classmate a couple of years ago in buying this because she had these really beautiful, defined lids, though I couldn't tell if it was red-toned eyeshadow or her natural eyelids. Haux is wonderful and another understated color that deserves more credit for being so fabulous.
Expensive Pink (Veluxe Pearl finish)--
Expensive Pink is more than just the typical pink eyeshadow. Under different lighting, it shines peach and coral and gold. This is a color perfect for the summertime and is very easy to use because it has such a great texture. I like using this best with Mulch in the crease as the brown and coral-pink compliment each other very nicely.
left, Sable; right, Star Violet
Star Violet (Veluxe Pearl finish)--
Star Violet is a beautiful shimmery red-toned purple. It is very much in the same color family as Sable, which is why I included a side-by-side comparison of the two. Next to Star Violet, you can really see the purple undertones of Sable that I mentioned above. While Star Violet is gorgeous in the pan, I find it difficult to wear because it's such an unusual color that can't easily be paired with other eyeshadows. However, the texture is smooth, soft, and pigmented, and the color really is beautiful on its own.
Sumptuous Olive (Veluxe Pearl finish)--
Wow. This was my first reaction to Sumptuous Olive. The color wasn't captured as well in the pan, but if you look at the swatch, you can see how beautiful Sumptuous Olive truly is. A rich olive green with a beautiful golden sheen and brown undertones, this is a color that is the epitome of a perfect eyeshadow. It applies beautifully and gives fantastic color payoff. I think this would look beautiful on a wide variety of skin tones and eye colors, but would be absolutely stunning on brown and hazel eyes.
Of Summer (satin finish)--
LIMITED EDITION/DISCONTINUED
I won't go too into detail because this is a discontinued MAC shade that I purchased at a Cosmetic Company Outlet. Of Summer is a cool-toned pale, light lavender that applies very sheerly. It works best over a white cream base.
Fig. 1 (matte2 finish)--
Fig. 1 is a purple matte-squared finish eyeshadow. It blends so nicely, which is often the problem of matte eyeshadows, and is a great 'color' color for people who want to begin to venture away from neutrals and start using colored eyeshadows. I like applying this color either on my lower lash line for a subtle pop of purple or in the outer corners of my eyes for a darker, defined look.
Style Snob (Starflash finish)--
LIMITED EDITION/DISCONTINUEDAgain, this is a discontinued limited edition eyeshadow. It's a gorgeous cool-toned light purple/taupe with a reflective golden sheen. If I ever found this eyeshadow again, I would buy it immediately because it was at one time my favorite eyeshadow before I dropped it and had to repress it after the entire thing shattered. It hasn't been the same since :(
Satin Taupe (frost finish)--
This is a beautiful gray-purple-brown taupe that has become a celebrated MAC favorite. It is wonderfully pigmented and can be used in so many ways, as it can be paired with either warm or cool eyeshadows to make a unique, pretty look. The versatility and unique color of Satin Taupe is what makes this eyeshadow so popular among MAC buyers. What I find looks best is using Satin Taupe as either a crease-color or a light wash to the lids.Night Manoeuvres (satin finish)--
LIMITED EDITION/DISCONTINUED
Night Manoeuvres is a basic, cool-toned dark brown with a very slight shimmer to it that isn't very noticeable once applied to the eyelid. Color payoff isn't great and the texture is slightly chalky.
Thank you for getting through this extremely long post, and I hoped you all liked seeing the eyeshadows I have in my MAC palette. This is a type of post I look for and enjoying seeing on beauty blogs all the time. I may find myself collecting a few more MAC eyeshadow--I've been eyeing Woodwinked for some time now--so if there are any must-have eyeshadows, please let me know!
Have a beautiful day!
Cathy
