Old to New Fashion: the crop top

Lately, I've been into not only thrifting and finding used clothing, but also using old clothes to make something new and fresh. I love DIY projects, and so I decided to take on the challenge of making a fashionable top out of an old floral dress that I bought 2 or 3 years ago.

I've always loved the top of this dress with it's snug fit and flattering neckline, but I never liked wearing it as a dress. Here is what it looked like at the start of it's journey:

To start off this process, I flipped it inside out to find the seams holding the skirt and the top together. I had to study the dress a bit to find exactly which threads I had to deconstruct.

I used this handy little tool to remove the threads!

I located the seam and picked away until I had freed the skirt from the top and now had two separate pieces lying in front of me.

The easy part was cutting off that little "tail" on the front of the top and removing the two straps that were meant to support the tie of the dress. I then folded the hem of my future crop top back along its natural crease and used a sewing machine to finish the hem.

And here we have the completed floral crop top! I added a little bow made of the tie meant for the waist and sewing it into place at the front of my new shirt. I hope you don't mind the awkwardness of my photos, but as you all can see, it was super easy to create something new out of an old piece of clothing. I had a lot of fun doing this and I hope you all enjoyed this little journey from dress to top! I definitely want to put up a lot more of these little DIY type posts in the future!

See you all very soon,
Cathy xx
